December 25-27, 2009 -- We left on Christmas day (12/25/2009), spending the night in Savannah, Georgia and St. Augustine, Florida with the final destination of Davenport, Florida, about 30 miles outside of Orlando.
In Savannah, we spent the night at Camping World where they had electrical hookups which was nice. We needed to have the oil changed on the motorhome so we did this to get first dibs on service in the morning. After getting the paperwork set up, Joe and I jumped in the Jeep and headed into downtown Savannah to grab breakfast. We stopped at a restaurant that I found online called B. Matthews Eatery which turned out to be a great find. The food was great as well as the ambience, service, location and price. We then found Chippewa Square where part of Forrest Gump was filmed (where Forrest is sitting on the bus bench talking about 'Life is like a box of chocolates...').
Once we got back and hooked up the Jeep, we headed back on southbound I-95 for our next destination of St. Augustine, Florida. It was a good drive other than several miles of stressful construction through southern Georgia. We found our campground and got settled in. This was after a little mix-up at the front desk where they had placed another RV in our designated space. It all worked out.
Joe and I then headed into historic St. Augustine to check out the city. It is a wonderful city full of old building, fine restaurants and lots of shopping. We wandered the streets taking photos and planning where we should eat. We finally decided on the Pizzalley Restaurant. This was another great choice. The wait was long, but worth it.
