Davenport, Florida

December 27, 2009 - January 23, 2010 / Davenport, FL -- We had to add another week to our stay in South Carolina because of the unavailability of a space at the RV park in St. Augustine, Florida where I wanted to stay. I was able to get a one-night reservation there on Dec 26, so finally on Friday, Christmas Day, we took off to Savannah where we spent the night at Camping World with plans to get the oil changed the next morning.

While they were working on the oil change, Joe and I drove the Jeep into Savannah and had a wonderful breakfast and then did a quick tour of the beautiful historic district (the largest in the USA) before heading back to Camping World.

We then drove to St. Augustine, FL, got a spot after a bit of a mixup in reservations (someone else was in our space and was away at the time). After a quick rest, we headed into downtown St. Augustine to check the place out and have dinner. St. Augustine is such a fascinating place. A city whose origin is 1542, it is the oldest continuously inhabited city within the USA. We wandered the downtown area, taking pictures, shopping the gift shops and then had dinner at a great Italian restaurant (PizzAlley).

Sunday morning, we got up and got on the road by 11:00 AM to our final destination of Davenport, Florida. This is a small town surrounded by rural countryside about 30 miles southwest of Orlando and 18 miles south of Disneyworld/Magic Kingdom. We chose this park due to price as the Sherwood Forest RV Resort where we stayed two years ago was asking $60/night, way past our usual budget. This is a Passport America park with an excellent rate of $99/week.

Las Vegas

Sunday January 17, 2010 - Last week I flew to Las Vegas for CES. It was hard work, but lot's of fun too. In addition to setting up my company's booth and then working the booth from open to close each day, I had a chance to explore the strip a bit. The highlight was seeing my niece Kristy on Saturday night. We went to dinner at the Mexican restaurant in The Palms casino and then she drove me out to her home in the southwest section of Las Vegas. After that we went to Mike and Judy's condo in downtown Las Vegas before dropping me off at my hotel, the Tropicana. I took a redeye flight at 11:00PM on Sunday night, arriving in Charlotte, NC at 6:00 AM and then finally boarded the flight to Orlando at 7:30AM arriving at 8:00 AM. I was beat.

Longer Stay

We added an additional/final week to our stay here at Three Worlds Resort in Davenport making it a total of 4 weeks. It's a great park and they have extended the special price they gave us for the first week for each additional week we've been here.

We're outta here

Next we head out to Space Coast where we will hopefully catch the launch of Space Shuttle Atlantis, STS-131 on February 11 @ 4:30AM from pad 39A at Kennedy Space Center. We will be staying near Titusville, FL where we will be able to see a pretty good view of the launch.
